Apple iPhone is one of the best smartphones on the market. The Cupertino firm debuted three new iPhones including iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR after months of leaks and rumors. The 2018 iPhone lineup is not a huge upgrade over their previous models. However, Apple is reporting slow sales performance out there.
According to Apple CEO, Tim Cook, the company saw a low demand for newer iPhones in Greater China. And Apple is planning something new to boost its sales out there. Chinese retailers now offer discounts on the iPhone pricing tiers in an attempt to attract more customers. In reality, iPhone prices have seen a cut in China since January, but most retailers only offered the best deals on older iPhones. Reports say that newer iPhones like iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR will see a price drop in China this month. Specifically, big Chinese retailers like JD.com or Suing.com are now offering big discounts on iPhone models.
Sources say that Apple will reduce the price of the iPhone XR in China. In reality, the iPhone XR had a good start upon release as it received millions of pre-orders. However, the XR demand was low in the third quarter of 2018. Apple is struggling to sell its iPhones in China as it fails to confront the local smartphone brands. Big names like Huawei or Xiaomi now dominate the Chinese market. Reports recently claimed that Huawei shipped more than 60 million smartphone units in Q3/2018. However, Apple still led in terms of revenue.
Apple is expected to announce new iPhones in September this year. However, it remains unclear when exactly we are seeing them on the market. However, we want to see them two weeks after the unveiling event. The Cupertino firm is now offering a trade-in iPhone program that encourages users to upgrade their devices. Besides, Apple reduced iPhone XS and XS Max prices in Hong Kong last month to boost its sales. iPhone shipments will see a change later this year when new iPhones come out. Sources say that the new iPhones need to be innovative enough to compete with Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus as well as Sony’s upcoming phones.
