This means that you cannot purchase iOS 11 apps on your Mac and then bring them to your iPhone or iPad. A number of Mac or Windows users have downgraded back to iTunes 12.6.2 to get back the App Store into iTunes for better app management.
However, some Mac owners have reported that they get a message saying “iTunes Library.itl cannot be read” when trying to open the downgraded version of iTunes. This problem also shows up on Windows PC, forcing them to reboot the app multiple times.
In this article, we will go through the troubleshooting steps to fix “iTunes Library.itl” cannot be read error on your Mac. Before we begin, make sure you now have already installed iTunes 12.6 on your machine
How to fix “iTunes Library.itl” cannot be read error on your Mac
Step one: First off, press Command + Shift + G and then type ~/Music/iTunes/. After that, locate iTunes Library.itl and rename it to iTunes Library.old (This will create a backup of your library, so you can restore it in case something goes wrong during the process)
Step two: Once you are done, find the folder named “Previous iTunes Libraries” and click on it. From here, you will see a list of all the versions of iTunes library. Locate the most recent version and open it (if you don’t see your iTunes library file, quit the Finder and re-launch iTunes on your computer)
Step three: Copy that file and paste it anywhere on your computer. After that, head back to ~/Music/iTunes/ and paste the file. Once you see it, rename it to iTunes Library.itl. Now just simply launch iTunes to see if the problem is fixed.
How to fix “iTunes Library.itl” cannot be read error on your Windows PC
If you don’t have a Mac, don’t worry because we will show you how to fix the issue on your Windows PC.
Step one: Click on This PC and open the Music folder to proceed
Step two: Once you are in, locate iTunes Library.itl and rename it to “iTunes Library.old”. After that, find the folder named “Previous iTunes Libraries” and click on it
Step three: Copy your most recent version of iTunes library file to Desktop, then paste the file into iTunes folder and rename it to iTunes Library.itl.
